Timber Types

We use beautiful Australian salvaged and recycled timbers with characteristics that make each handcrafted piece unique. We try our best to capture the nature and tone of the timbers in our product photos, however we cannot guarantee an exact match. Some products may come darker or lighter, within reason and tolerance.

The wood species that we use are subject to availability.

Type 1 - Blackbutt

Type 1 boards use a single wood species. Blackbutt heartwood ranges from golden yellow to pale brown, although occasionally a slight pinkish colour may be present. The sapwood, which is not always easy to distinguish, is generally much paler in appearance. However, on occasion where the tree grew near water stained with tea tree, the sapwood is dark brown.

Other species include Gympie Messmate, and Silky Oak.

Type 2 - Silky Oak & Rose Gum

Type 2 boards use two types of timber species. Silky Oak heartwood is a light to medium reddish brown with grey to light brown rays. Rose gum has heartwood that is pink to red-brown in colour, with paler sapwood.

Other species include Gympie Messmate, Hoop Pine, and Blackbutt.

Type 3 - Gympie Messmate & Silky Oak

Type 3 boards use two types of timber species. Gympie messmate features yellow-brown heartwood that is strong, hard and extremely durable. Its sapwood is generally paler in colour, ranging from white to grey-white. However, on occasion where the tree grew near water stained with tea tree, the sapwood is darker. Silky Oak heartwood is a light to medium reddish brown with grey to light brown rays.

Other species include Rose Gum, Hoop Pine, and Blackbutt.
